“Dedicated to the Nigerian Ibibio tribe she was raised in, Ibio-Ibio finds the saxophonist and Tomorrow’s Warriors graduate veering ever closer to Afro-funk, as she serves up spiritual lullabies that riff off Sarah Tandy’s bouncy keys and Rod Young and Daniel Casimir’s rolling rhythms. A trio of tracks with Birmingham rapper MC Sanity nail the narrative, but George is the undoubted star, delivering criss-crossing solos with a ‘50s hard-bop bent.”
